THE LITTLE THINGS
It’s been a while since I penned down anything on my blog. I was beginning to wonder whether it was due to lack of inspiration or just sheer laziness…
This latest piece was inspired by my experience during ‘locum’ – (jargon used to describe part-time work at another hospital which is not your usual place of work) at a well-established private health facility.
The time spent there made me realize that little things in life mattered a lot.
Being able to decide that you would want to eat rice or spaghetti was a cherished luxury
Our compatriots in the “madhouses” do not have this at their disposal
So, Give Thanks
Vision in 3D, 4D, or virtual reality is a gracious gift unto you
In the land of the blind… Give Thanks
Auditory hallucinations are as real as the yam you eat
Give Thanks if you can hear mum call your name
They say there is a lot of power in the tongue but what use is a tongue if words cannot be spoken with it
For if it were absent, your “I love you” would have taken the form of drawings in the air
I was at the ENT – (Ear Nose and Throat) Clinic when a young man walked in with a “tracheostomy tube” – (A tube passed in the lower neck to help a patient breathe and make speech in some cases) in the neck and then it hit me… if you can swallow and sing you should Give Thanks
If you do not have a tube down your throat in order to feed, Give Thanks
Your heart Is supposed to beat continuously for a lifetime but if it ceases today you’re destined to become a tenant at the morgue.
If you can pass stools and pass that “miasma” with no difficulty, Give thanks
Else intestinal obstruction and its management would become your ordeal
Cherish the urine you can pass today with ease, for as especially as a man you may find it as a luxury later. You may become the surgeon’s worksurface.
Touch creates bond. It conveys a lot. Protects you from harm.
Imagine that situation where you could not feel a thing and as a result your foot could be right on a burning flame and nerve network would fail you in their responsibility.
Of what use would coitus be without the sensation of pleasure…
Give thanks and praises…
